Last year, we received feedback from many of you about rooms being created and published with Junior accessibility enabled, despite the room being suited for older audiences e.g. horror rooms.

We dug into these concerns and discovered that the issue stemmed from buried and poorly designed settings. By default, Junior accessibility was toggled “On” for all new rooms, and the option to turn it off was hidden in the room settings. Because of this, many creators may not have even realized they could disable Junior access.

Introducing Age Ratings

To address this, we’re introducing Age Ratings for rooms.

Now, when you click “Publish” for your next creation, you’ll see a new screen asking you to select an age rating. This step is required before publishing your room.

To keep things simple, we’re starting with two age ratings:

All Ages: Allows players of any age, Juniors included, to visit your room.

Age 13+: Limits access to Non-Juniors (13+) only.

We've included helpful guidelines based on ESRB and PEGI ratings to make it easy to decide which rating dits your room best. If you select "All ages", your room will be tagged with the #junior room tag.

Changing Your Room’s Age Rating

If you make a change to your room and need to update your room’s age rating later, you can update it easily. Go to This Room > Settings > Main Settings, and you’ll find the Age Rating option.

Questions & Answers

Q: Do I need to make changes to rooms I’ve already published?

Nope! Rooms that currently allow Juniors to visit will continue to allow Juniors. However, you can update your room’s age rating if needed.

Q: How do I know if a room supports Junior access?

Rooms with an age rating of All Ages will continue to be tagged with #junior. Rooms with an age rating of Age 13+ will not contain the #junior room tag.

Q: Is the “Supports Juniors” option still available in Room Settings > Moderation?

Nope! Age Ratings have replaced this option. The option to change age ratings can be found on the main room settings page.
