Today, we’re announcing that Rec Room has joined the Tech Coalition, a global organization of technology companies committed to combating online child sexual exploitation and abuse. These are terrible crimes with devastating implications for survivors and victims. No single company can solve this global issue alone; by partnering with the Tech Coalition, we can contribute to, and build upon, best practices to keep children safe. This collaboration strengthens our ability to develop effective tools, share knowledge, and stay ahead of emerging challenges to child safety.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Rec Room to the Tech Coalition. As gaming platforms continue to connect millions of users globally, they play a critical role in creating safer online spaces for children. By joining our collective effort and participating in Lantern, Rec Room demonstrates its commitment to advancing child safety and tackling online sexual exploitation through collaboration and innovation.” – Sean Litton, President and CEO, Tech Coalition
We are also joining Lantern, a program that helps social and gaming organizations share signals about accounts and behaviors that violate child safety policies. As Tech Coalition and Lantern members, we can work with partners from across the world to develop solutions to some of the most challenging issues surrounding child safety.
We’ve done a lot of work to detect and prevent harms to children that we don’t often talk about, such as developing our own proprietary models to detect high-risk interactions and using technology to detect potential uploads of Child Sexual Abuse Material. Still, there is always more we can do. We’re excited to share our work with TC and Lantern members and learn from their expertise and experience to build safer online communities for all children.
